If you are just getting started in your breastfeeding journey, you may be experiencing sore nipples, troubles latching, plugged ducts, or low milk supply. You may want to go to a lactation consultant but are afraid of the exposure that may create. I want you to know that it is possible to get help for breastfeeding that is done in the privacy of your own home that doesn't involve anyone coming into your home or you leaving your home.
The answer of whether or not insurance is going to cover it is still out. Aetna has put out a policy saying "Aetna Commercial patients pay $0 for covered telemedicine visits until June 4, 2020." Individual clients will be responsible for calling their insurance company and getting clarification what "covered telemedicine visits" means for their policy.
Our office will be using a combination of tools to ensure security and privacy during your call. The first is a free service from doxy.me that creates a virtual waiting room for clients. This is HIPAA complaint and easy to use. It requires no special apps or downloads, a client just clicks on the link and enters their name. When I am ready for the call, I will "let them in". This tool can be used on phones, laptops and desktops. Another tool that I will use is the ability to upload images to the Charmphr portal. Pictures taken on a client's phone will be available to me to evaluate and comment on during the call. This is a work in progress and I expect glitches in the system as I figure out how to implement it, as well as how to conduct a visit through a computer. Our online booking system is available to you to schedule the type of appointment that you need.
We are also working on a set of videos to explain the telehealth process and how to get the most out of your appointment. Check out our youtube channel playlist .

I am willing to get creative to figure out the safest way to provide care for my clients. I do believe that in light of today's "safer at home" policy, it makes sense to rely on telehealth to bridge the gap until in-person visits can be done.
